St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office teams up with League of Angels players

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office teamed up with members of the League of Angels Tuesday, April 30 for some friendly competition on the baseball diamond.

The League of Angels, a sports league for St. Bernard Parish children and adults with special needs, provides participants with a chance to bond with other individuals who face similar challenges, while building character and self-esteem and creating lasting friendships.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office served as buddies for participants in Tuesday evening’s games held at Val Riess Sports Complex in Chalmette.

Sheriff James Pohlmann, who served as pitcher, was joined by members of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau, Special Investigations Division, Communications and Administration.

The mission of the League of Angels is to positively affect the lives of special needs residents by offering camaraderie, and joy of play, that organized recreational activities facilitate. The League provides individuals with different abilities the opportunity to become involved in their community, get some exercise, and most of all – have some fun!
