Sheriff James Pohlmann wins third four-year term as sheriff of St. Bernard Parish
as no one files to run against him on October ballot
Sheriff James Pohlmann went unopposed to win a third four-year term as sheriff of St. Bernard Parish when no one filed to run against him on Aug. 8 at the end of the three-day qualifying period for the October election.
“I feel honored to be able to serve another four-year term as sheriff of our great parish,’’ Sheriff Pohlmann said after the qualifying period ended and he was being congratulated by well-wishers.
Sheriff Pohlmann said he is proud of the work the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office do to keep our parish safe.
“We pride ourselves on a good response time to calls from the public and promise that if you need us we will be there as quickly as possible,’’ the Sheriff said.
The next term begins July 1, 2020.
A native of St. Bernard Parish, Sheriff Pohlmann began his career with the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office in 1983 when he was just 18 years old.
Sheriff Pohlmann has served in virtually all areas of the department, including Communications, Corrections, Patrol, Traffic, Criminal Investigations and SWAT. He has also held various command posts throughout his career, including SWAT Commanding Officer and Chief of Field Operations.
After serving as chief deputy for former St. Bernard Sheriff Jack A. Stephens for nearly four years, overseeing all law enforcement operations, he was first elected sheriff in November 2011, and was also re-elected without opposition in 2015.
