St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office to participate in Special Olympics

St. Bernard Sheriff James Pohlmann and members of the Sheriff’s Office will be among the volunteers to help St. Bernard Parish special-needs students have their turn in the spotlight on Friday, March 29 between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the St. Bernard Parish Public School System’s 2019 Louisiana Special Olympics.

More than 100 students are expected to participate in this year’s event which will take place on the track and football fields at Chalmette High School’s Bobby Nuss Stadium, 1100 E. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette.

Sheriff Pohlmann said members of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau and Special Investigations Division will assist special-needs students compete in a variety of track and field events throughout the day, including the softball throw, standing long jump, 100-meter run and wheelchair race.

The public is invited to cheer on the participants as they compete at the event. For more information, call the School Board office at (504) 301-2000.
