St. Bernard Parish – Yesterday evening, shortly after 8:00 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on LA 39 north near Schnell Drive. The pedestrian was identified as 63 year old Debra Miller of Arabi, LA.

The initial investigation indicated that Miller was attempting to cross the north bound lanes of LA 39 and was struck by a 2006 Honda Accord, driven by 45 year old Mallerie Thurman of Arabi, LA, that was traveling in the right lane. Miller was transported to St. Bernard Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Thurman provided a voluntary blood sample for toxicological analysis. Crashes involving pedestrians can often be avoided by following some basic safety guidelines. Pedestrians should wear light-colored or reflective clothing and should always avoid walking on the roadway in dark areas.
